REP. ARTHUR RAVENEL (R-SC)
- During 1993, Rep. Ravenel actively traded stock in Westinghouse (a major defense contractor). On January 2, 1993, Rep. Ravenel purchased between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars of Westinghouse stock. On October 25, 1993, he sold between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars of Westinghouse stock.
On November 16, 1993, Rep. Ravenel purchased and sold (or sold and purchased) between 15,000 and 50,000 dollars worth of Westinghouse stock.
One day earlier (November 15), the House voted to clear H.R. 2401 (the NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FISCAL 1994) for consideration by the Senate. H.R. 2401 was signed by President Clinton as 103 P.L. 160 on November 30.
- On December 16, 1993, Rep. Ravenel purchased between 1,000 and 15,000 dollars worth of stock in Maxus Energy. Maxus is a oil and natural gas exploration (exploitation) firm based in Texas.
Four days later (December 20), President Clinton signed 103 P.L. 206 (the COAST GUARD AUTHORIZATION ACT OF 1993). This was introduced as H.R. 2150 and came through the House Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee. The Coast Guard Authorization Act contains significant appropriations for PREPOSITIONED OIL SPILL CLEANUP EQUIPMENT, and OIL SPILL TRAINING SIMULATORS.
