SEN. CHARLES ROBB (D-VA)

  • On October 8, 1991, Sen. Robb purchased between 1,000 and 15,000 dollars worth of stock in Southwestern Bell.

On the same day (October 8, 1991), Rep. Cooper (D-TN) introduced a bill that would cause Southwestern Bell some measure of concern. The bill was H.R. 3515: TELECOMMUNICATIONS ACT..."To encourage competition in the provision of electronic information services, to foster the continued diversity of information sources and services, to preserve the universal availability of basic telecommunications services" (Referred to House Energy and Commerce). The Senate version of this bill (S. 2112) was introduced by Sen. Inouye (D-HI), and referred to Sen. Robb's Committee (Senate Commerce) on November 26, 1991.

  • On October 18, 1991, Sen. Robb purchased between 1,000 and 15,000 dollars worth of stock in Dole Foods (the fruit, juice, and sugar people).

On the same day (October 18, 1991), H.R. 2698: AGRICULTURE AND RELATED AGENCIES APPROPRIATIONS FY92 was presented to President Bush for his signature. The President actually signed this bill into law (P.L. 142) ten days later (October 28, 1991).

PAC MONEY: Sen. Robb accepts campaign contributions from Southwestern Bell ($3,500 just from April 1993 thru January 1994). Although Sen. Robb does not receive campaign contributions from Dole Foods, he did receive $6,000 from sugar producer PACs during the last election cycle. For the current cycle, he hasn't received a nickle from the sugar producers...I wonder, why?
