REP. JAMES INHOFE (R-OK)

On January 4, 1993, Rep. Inhofe purchased between 15,000 and 50,000 dollars worth of stock in AT&T, and between 15,000 and 50,000 dollars worth of stock in MCI Communications.

One day later (on January 5, 1993), a bill was introduced in the House that could affect both AT&T and MCI. The bill was H.R. 6: IMPROVING AMERICA'S SCHOOLS ACT...To extend for 6 years the authorizations of appropriations for the programs under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (Became P.L. 103-382 on October 20, 1994).

This bill contains significant appropriations for educational telecommunications technology--connections to the "Info. Super Highway" in the schools, with particular emphasis on rural and poor school districts.

Ten days after his initial purchase (on January 14, 1993), Rep. Inhofe purchased between 15,000 and 50,000 dollars worth of stock in Microsoft (a new player in the telecommunications/computer on-line services).

VOTE NOTES: Rep. Inhofe voted with the Republican line on H.R. 6 by voting NAY.

PAC NOTES: Since March 1988 thru March 1994, Rep. Inhofe has accepted $7,000 in campaign contributions from AT&T's PAC.

NOTES: Rep. Inhofe is # 15 on the House Armed Services Committee; he is # 7 on the House Merchant Marine Committee; he is # 5 on the House Public Works Committee.
