REP. WILLIAM BAKER (R-CA)

• On June 24, 1993, Rep. Baker purchased between 1,000 and 15,000 dollars worth of stock in Alaska Air Group. He purchased another 1,000 to 15,000 dollars worth on September 17, 1993.

Two days before his initial purchase (on June 22, 1993), the House introduced H.R. 2490: DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND RELATED AGENCIES APPROPRIATIONS ACT, FY 1994.

• On March 22, 1993, Rep. Baker purchased between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars worth of stock in Louisiana Pacific Corp. (a large sawmill operation in Oregon). On April 7, 1993, Rep. Baker purchased another 50,000 to 100,000 dollars worth of Louisiana Pacific.

Twenty days before his initial purchase (on March 2, 1993), the House introduced H.R. 1164: FOREST BIODIVERSITY AND CLEARCUTTING PROHIBITION ACT. This bill had 107 cosponsors, and was greatly opposed by the timber industry for obvious reasons.

• On January 27, 1993, Rep. Baker purchased between 15,000 and 50,000 dollars worth of stock in Freeport McMoran (a large mining/mineral resources concern).

Three weeks before this purchase (on January 5, 1993), the House introduced H.R. 322: MINERAL EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT ACT. This bill had 46 cosponsors, and was greatly opposed by the mining industry for obvious reasons.

On November 18, 1993, the House voted on H.R. 322. Rep. Baker voted NAY on this bill.

• On March 10, 1993, Rep. Baker purchased between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars worth of stock in Diamond Shamrock Inc (a large oil and gas company...with an affil./subsid. known as Diamond Shamrock Offshore Partners).

On the same day (March 10, 1993), the House introduced H.R. 1282: OUTER CONTINENTAL SHELF ENHANCED EXPLORATION/DEEP WATER INCENTIVES ACT (Referred to House Merchant Marine Committee).

On September 1, 1993, Rep. Baker again purchased between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars worth of stock in Diamond Shamrock. This second purchase was two weeks before the House Subcommittee on Oceanography, Gulf of Mexico, and the Outer Continental Shelf held a hearing on H.R. 1282.
