The Best Congress Money Can Buy

This is where you get to do some digging of your own. The MoJo Wire is making available data gathered from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) by the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP) in an easy to use graphical format.

Candidate's last name:

Available Databases:
'93-'94 PAC Contributions
'91-'92 PAC Contributions
'91-'92 Individual Contributions

In this first installment you can explore three databases to find out where candidates got their money:

To look at the data, simply enter the last name of the candidate you want to check out in the box above and check the boxes next to the databases you want to include in your search.

When you are done, select the "Show Me" button. After we look up the candidate's name to get his or her official FEC code we will give you a screen from which you can confirm your choice (or select a candidate if there is more than one with the given last name).

Then you will get a page with a bar chart showing how much money that candidate received from each of the 15 industrial sectors that the CRP uses to classify all donations. (Sectors that gave no money are not listed.) From that screen you can select any of the individual sectors to see its total contributions broken down by industry. These industries can be further broken down into still more specific categories.
